The last of our tomatoes

Found these babies under a box in our sunroom. I'd completely forgotten about them! They are our favourite variety - sweet orange cherries. Hadn't held out much hope that they would ripen. These were the hard green ones that were left after the plump green ones had ripened and were eaten. Was going to compost them but thought I'd leave them out just in case. Glad I did. They will make a yummy light pasta sauce this week. :)

Irma, I know eh? I was happy. :)

C, didn't we make pasta last time we cooked together? :) Hey did you make pancakes for Z on Tues? I somehow missed pancake day altogether. :-(

been meaning to ask you about this one - were they from the fall harvest and you left them in a warm room but in the dark? does it help if they are left on the vine? I had alot of green tomatoes that I couldn't harvest last year and would love to know of options for future harvests. thanks!

Hey Urban Girl,
For best results I think you are supposed to wrap each tomato in newspaper and keep them in a cool-ish room. But with the cherry tomatoes I just put them in a wooden box without a lid. Don't think you need to leave them on the vines but they sure were easier to harvest that way. Also I have a feeling they kept as long as they did because the vines kept the tomatoes from touching each other too much (which can make them rot).

Sadly this year I wasn't able to keep any of my tomatoes. Because of the wet summer my tomatoes got blight. Which makes them impossible to store. They basically started rotting on the vine and the ones that didn't, rotted v. quickly after picking.

I'm hoping this year is better! :)
